 Rio 600

The Rio 600 was quite a departure to the square looking predecessor a Rio 300, sporting smooth ergonomic design with replaceable snap-on covers. Initially supplied with 32MB of internal memory and an empty dummy back pack (which wasn't the easiest design to replace the single AA battery), in the end the proprietary backpacks was it's Achilles heel.

Requiring expensive backpacks (although they had a built-in rechargeable battery & charger) additional memory could not be purchased in the form of cheap (and plentiful) Smart Media cards, the backpack design was compatible with Rio 800 / Rio 900s and came in the form of an additional 32MB, 64MB or rare 128MB. A later Rio 600 SE model sported 64MB of internal memory and a silver snap-on-cover.

Audio format wise the Rio 600 supports mp3,  Windows Media Audio (wma) and Audible. [View Manual]
